A poem written by the hand of Victor Hugo was discovered by chance in the back of a cupboard in a school in French city of Besançon (Doubs).
The poem is called Poor Children. It had been offered by Victor Hugo in 1868 for a lottery organized in Besançon (Doubs) for the benefit of the needy. Then it was bought by a bookseller from the son of the lucky winner of the time before being sold in high school, FranceInfo reports.
“It was here, on the occasion of a large sorting of our stewardship premises that we found my colleagues and I this frame in a cupboard among other documents without interest”, explains a member of the educational establishment. “We are certain that it is an original manuscript and what is more unpublished, because we do not find the trace in the collections of poems of Victor Hugo”, explains Jean-Jacques Fito, the principal of the college of Victor Hugo.
