British DJ and musician Andrew Weatherall has died at the age of 56.
He suffered a pulmonary embolism and died at Whipps Cross Hospital, his management confirmed.
A statement described Weatherall’s death as “swift and peaceful”, Independent reports.
He is widely recognised as one of the leading innovators of electronic music in the UK, and continued to work as a DJ until his death.
A key figure in the acid house movement of the Eighties and Nineties, having once been resident DJ of the pioneering nightclub Shoom, Weatherall was best known for his production work on Primal Scream’s 1991 album Screamadelica.
