The Japanese writer Haruki Murakami has been influenced by Western culture since childhood.

He loves jazz and classical music. He also founded a jazz club when he was 15, and continued to run it until 30.

Many of Murakami novels have played with themes and titles that refer to classical music.

In 2018, as part of a retrospective look at his work, Waseda University in Tokyo announced their plans to house the archives of Haruki Murakami, Far Out magazine reports. As part of this show, many personal items from his life, which included his manuscripts and source documents, also involved his personal vinyl collection.
